We’ve all been there.
It’s 4 PM on a lazy Sunday afternoon, and after two hours of watching tutorial videos on YouTube, you’re finally ready. You stand with your back straight in the mirror, holding your sharpest pair of scissors. Today’s the day.
You’re going to cut your own hair.
It won’t be a “big chop” or anything crazy. You’re not about to give yourself bangs. (You still remember your 2020 quarantine days, okay? You have your limits.) You’re just going to take a little… bit… off… the ends.
Ta-da!
Look at you, saving yourself $60 and the headache of driving downtown. Sometimes, having a DIY mentality pays off.
Of course, other times, there’s a lot more risk involved. Hair grows back (thank goodness). But your car’s transmission? The electrical wiring in your house? I mean, would you want to perform your own root canal (OMG, the horror)?!
I hire professionals to help me with all of these things. A good car mechanic, electrician, or oral surgeon puts my mind at ease. They have both the education and experience necessary to do their work with excellence.
That’s not to say I don’t believe in the ingenuity and resiliency of people. I do. Researching and putting in the effort to solve day-to-day problems is admirable.
But when time is limited and expertise is required, I’ve found it’s best to stick to my strengths and allow others to help me with the rest.
This is part of why I love my job as a realtor. Many people think that selling their home will be as easy as listing it online—but that’s like launching a business and never telling anyone about it!
