The Best Local Bakeries in Boise, Idaho

As a mom, I have mastered the art of the 30-minute dinner. I had to, you know? The kids have school, followed by extracurriculars, followed by homework. Between the drop-offs, pick-ups, and last-minute trips to Target, I don’t have time to craft the perfect ratatouille every night.

Some of my go-to meals are tacos, burgers, and anything that can move from the freezer to my kids’ mouths in 15 minutes or less (I’m looking at you, dino chicken nuggets). I love picking huckleberries and serving homemade pancakes, but how often do I get to do that? (Hint: rarely.)

Every year, I tell myself I will make time—especially during the holidays—to cook and bake meals from scratch. And whenever I can, I do just that. I stuff my own turkey, mash my own potatoes, and simmer my own cranberries. But if you’re anything like me, then you know there’s always one dish that flies under the radar. For me, it’s the rolls.

I always forget about rolls.

Which is tragic because… bread. What meal couldn’t use a healthy dose of bread? I’d love to say I learned how to make my own sourdough back in 2020, but… not so much.

And this is why I love (and rely on) Hudson Baking Co. They use natural ingredients and a slow fermentation process to bring Boise residents the best darn dinner rolls, cinnamon rolls, burger buns, bagels, and sourdough loaves in the city.

Hudson Baking Co. supports our local agriculture with every item they bake. In fact, they’re Idaho’s first farm-to-table bakery. Hamburgers may be one of my quick and easy dinners, but I’ll go out of my way to pick up buns from their store. As a realtor in the Boise area, supporting my community like this is hugely important to me.

Plus, once you’ve tasted their bread, it’s high-key impossible to go back to the mass-produced stuff.

Another dish I rarely think about until it’s too late is dessert. But that’s the thing about having young children—they never forget dessert.

When I’m crunched for time and in need of pie (a family favorite), I make a trip to Boise Pie Co. Everything in their store is fresh and homemade, and with a menu as long as theirs, that’s saying a lot.

Not only does Boise Pie Co. make amazing desserts, but their sandwiches are some of the best in the city. Their Idaho Ranch Club is a 10/10 every time. They also serve excellent coffee and tea if you’re just trying to stay awake until dinner.

For the record, I wasn’t paid to say any of this. I genuinely love these businesses and appreciate the work they do. Anyone who can keep my house stocked with good bread and pie has my (and my kids’) undying gratitude.

So, next time your meal prep aspirations don’t quite go to plan, stop by Hudson Baking Co. or Boise Pie Co. They’ve saved my bacon plenty of times, and I know they’ll be glad to do the same for you.
